Yamaha Performing Artist
(formerly Dr. Jill Allen)

Autobiography
I also play alto flute, piccolo, and I'm a composer & arranger.
I attended Eastman School of Music, where I received my Bachelor of Music degree.
I got my Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota.
And, I received my Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
I performed and taught music in Kansas when I was sponsored by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
I've recorded and released three CDs that feature me on jazz flute: “I’m Flying,” “Two Much Fun!” & “Petty Theft.”
I've performed and adjudicated on several occasions for the Wichita Jazz Festival.
I have had a long-standing service as Jazz Committee chairperson of the National Flute Association.
My own jazz group has performed concerts and clinics for several educational institutions and flute clubs, including the New York Flute Club.
For the past decade, I've taught Jazz Improvisation and Musicianship to young flutists worldwide at the Colorado Suzuki Institute at Snowmass.
For several years, I co-led a jazz orchestra in New York City with my partner, Gary Wofsey.
Our album, Gary Wofsey in Stereo, features me playing 6-string bass guitar on the CD.
Gary & I are currently planning and preparing to present new jazz orchestra music that will feature me on all of my instruments. And, we'll be performing several of my original compositions and arrangements.
I'm very grateful to my friends and fans who've made it possible for me to place impressively in the Down Beat Magazine Readers' Polls several times in recent years.

Now, I have a much less hectic life, in a very secluded part of
NW Florida, where
Gary & I live with our
3 yellow labs (Abigail, Veronica & Jumbo) and our 2 ducks (Henry and JoAnne).
